Soiree Planning Meeting — Monday, April 29
Get involved! The Development Committee is gearing up for our spectacular annual fundraising soirée. The event has become a marquee one for the Yale alumni community to bond together through a fabulous party while raising the funds necessary to run YAANY. We need your help to make the soirée more exciting, fun-filled and fabulous than the others!
There’s much to do for everyone. And we are always open to more ideas, other than the soiree. In the past, we’ve sponsored bike trips, poetry readings, theater outings and more!
We will meet Monday, April 29 at 7 p.m. near Columbus Circle, so if you would like to participate then please e-mail Lisa Lee at lisalee500@yahoo.com
Public Service & Social Justice Committee
The Public Service & Social Justice Committee of YAANY is committed to promoting public service and advancing social justice while fostering and strengthening alumni relations. The committee ensures that long-term social justice goals, like our evolving Juvenile Justice program originating in Newark, NJ, our Haiti Assistance Task Force, and annual events such as the Yale Day of Service: New York City are a continued success in their outreach initiatives.

Social Events and Career Networking Committee
The Social Events and Career Networking Committee organizes activities for Yale alumni to engage informally and socially as well as connect and network based on their career interests. Events range from happy hours for IvyPlus alumni to career-networking sessions over coffee. Please contact Billy Kolber for more details and/or to get involved.
YAANY Arts Committee
The YAANY Arts Committee provides a forum where alumni can learn from leading practitioners in the world capital of fine and performing arts and support those in the entertainment industry.
Whether you have won a Pulitzer and travel by limousine or are pushing cabs between auditions, share your ideas and help create a resource to assist us all in our work. Please e-mail sibile@yaamny.net.
Educational Programs Committee
The Educational Programs Committee crafts valuable educational enrichment programming for alumni, the general public and program partner audiences. The Committee has sponsored a broad constellation of intellectually rich learning experiences from enlightening talks to on-the-ground immersion in the places where light and truth collide. Our programming highlights academic, civic, and cultural institutions in the cityscape. The Committee has presented: the longtime editor of The Yale Review Professor J.D. McClatchy on the opera libretto at the Tisch School of the Arts; the founder of The Equity Project Charter School Zeke Vanderhoek on teacher compensation and educational reform at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development; and Yale Law School Professor Ian Ayres on incentives, commitment contracts, and behavioral economics at Mies van der Rohe and Philip Johnson’s Seagram Building on Park Avenue. Our programs endeavor to engage the life of the mind on a kaleidoscopic range of stimulating subjects.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Contribute to crafting first-rate, thoughtful, and intellectually stimulating educational enrichment programs for alumni and the general public. Program planning, graphic design, social media, photography, and audio and video recording skills are especially of value. We also welcome overtures from alumni involved with educational or cultural institutions that may prove possible partners in developing enrichment programming.
E-mail the Committee at companyofscholars@gmail.com with your volunteer interest and biographical information.
Bring Yale to Your Neighborhood
Can’t commit to joining a committee? You can still help YAANY to plan a service, social, or cultural activity in your own area—whether Long Island or Staten Island. Each year, we work with the AYA and YAANY’s multiple committees to bring local programming and outreach, like the annual Yale Day of Service, with the support of volunteers like you!

Communications Committee
YAANY’s Communications Committee works on:
- bi-monthly newsletter that reaches out to 11,000+ alumni in NYC and Long Island
- the association’s website, which serves as the hub of Yale activity in the tri-state area
- expanding the association’s social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
Among Yale alumni clubs and associations, YAANY has been a pioneer in the use of technology to connect alumni and promote civic initiatives. Last year, we provided the technical know-how for YAANY’s first online auction, which won a Yale Alumni Association (AYA) Board of Governor’s Excellence Award for the most creative use of technology and social networking media.
Each spring, we work with the AYA and YAANY’s Public Service / Social Justice Committee on outreach for the annual Yale Day of Service.

Graduate & Professional Schools Alumni Relations Committee
The Graduate and Professional Schools Alumni Relations Committee seeks, in concert with the alumni organizations of those schools and The Yale Club of New York, to engage their alumni in the New York and Long Island areas both through the activities of YAANY in general and, in particular, by organizing events that feature their faculties.
